Matt & Steph Got Engaged!

Matt & Steph Got Engaged!

With Christmas just around the corner it’s such an exciting time of year, and for Steph and I it is even more exciting, as this week we got engaged!

Everyone’s been asking us for details so we thought, why not share our story with you here.

Everything got off to a great start when at our friend’s wedding on the weekend, Steph caught the bouquet!

December 18 was our anniversary, and I pretended like I had forgotten 😉

Normally we do extravagant things and spoil each other on our anniversary, but this year I downplayed it. I went to the gym and came home an hour later than usual, Steph had a present for me but I didn’t have one for her, she asked what we would be doing later and I said we might go for lunch, she asked what to wear I said ‘just wear thongs’ haha!

At this point, as you can imagine, Steph was getting a little agitated, and came right out and asked me if I had forgotten our anniversary.

Little did she know, I had been planning…

We went to Mantra Woolloomooloo for lunch and started talking about how great it would be to go out on one of the boats ‘one day’.

Meanwhile, my good friend James was running around in the background getting everything organised for us! Whenever he got too close to our table, I would have to lean in and quickly distract Steph, or she would have been onto us!

After lunch I suggested we go for a walk along the wharf and ‘have a look’ at the boats.

When we got to the one called The Riviera, I suggested we have a closer look, so we climbed aboard. I let Steph know that ‘one day’ was today, and for our anniversary we would be going on a sunset sail of Sydney Harbour!

We had Dom Perignon champagne on ice, which was on Steph’s Bucket List of things to experience, and a cheese platter with all her favourites.

We sailed out to the atoll, and at that moment, with the stunning Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background, and the soft glow of the setting sun in the distance, I got down on one knee, pulled out the beautiful engagement ring, and asked Steph if she would marry me.

Perfect right…almost. I had the engagement ring box around the wrong way, Steph had to show me how to do it properly! Thankfully she was unfazed, and said yes!

As we set sail again, I asked Steph ‘if you could celebrate this moment with anyone, and show them your ring, who would it be?’ She answered ‘my family.’

We sailed towards the Kings Street Wharf, as the boat crew said they needed to pick something up, which actually wasn’t a total lie…

When we stopped, I suggested to Steph that we head into Cargo Bar to have a shot to celebrate.

When we walked in, both of our families were there to celebrate with us!

There was champagne all round, then we jumped back onto the yacht to continue the cruise and celebration with both of our families aboard.

That evening, after we had watched the sun go down from the harbour, we went to the Park Hyatt, where I had a room booked for Steph and I.

The beautiful room was covered in roses and rose petals, there was a bottle of champagne on ice, and that my friends is where this story finishes, for you 😉

We are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together, and will share the wedding preparations with you in 2018!

Kindest regards,

Matt Catling
